NEW DELHI: The Indo-German Urban Mela begins at the Indraprastha "Millenium" Park from Saturday, October 27. The celebrations -- covering 16 ""specially-designed pavilions"" will continue till November 4.
The mela has already travelled to Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai. The 9-day event is part of the initiative christened""Germany and India 2011-2012: Infinite Opportunities,"" that commemorates 60 years of Indo-German diplomatic ties. The 16 pavilions will have interactive presentations that "explore how we can improve life within our cities." "And, at the Indo-German Urban Mela, Dilliwaalas will see, feel and enjoy live music, dance performances, dance and music workshops, film screenings, graffiti and theatre workshops, guided tours, culinary delights, book readings, exciting programmes for children and plenty more," says the press statement issued by the organizers.
Musical performances by such bands as Indian Ocean, BLOT, Jahcoozi, Mardi Gras. BB, Asad Khan & Fusion Messengers and Ska Vengers are included. There will also be poetry and science slams for the young minds; an series of readings by prominent authors in the 'Hold the Novel' and 'Novel Tree' programmes. The contemporary dance festival, IGNITE!, will take place with performances by Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts and German dancer and choreographer, Felix Burkle.
More activities to look out for are the "Talks on Cities" by German & Indian experts, creative workshops for children, theatre performances by colleges from Delhi University, Rock the Mela featuring young Indian bands and a workshop with German graphic novelist Barbara Yelin.
