NEW DELHI: With spirituality as theme, the Nrityanjali Festival 2012 including dance performances, will start on Saturday, October 20 at Instituto CErvantes. The performances, says the press statement, will be by students of Kathak dance and choreographer, Pooja Mani.
The central theme of the Nrityanjali festival -- spirituality -- will be conveyed through select Sanskrit verses from Shiv Stuti and Sri Ram Stuti set to to thumri and Sufi compositions based on Purvi lyrics. The performers will also belong to a vary wide age bracket -- 14 to 45 years.
The show concludes with a performance by senior French disciple, Olga Chepelianskaia, who has been training under the guidance of Pooja Mani for five years. She had earlier studied with S. Ekaterina, a Moscow-based kathak teacher
Pooja Mani herself trained at the Kathak Kendra, New Delhi, under Urmila Nagarji for six years and qualified as a Yoga instructor from Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan. She has undertaken various assignments as dance therapist through movement therapy. She started Eksaath School of Dance in Vasant Kunj, Delhi, in 1998 with the vision to inculcate the knowledge of Indian art and culture through the medium of dance, and to develop children as professional stage artists. Pooja teaches all age groups from six years to adults who are new to dance and those who wish to develop their skills and has conducted workshops with many of the city's schools. Combining her knowledge of dance and yoga, says the press note, she has also created "modules of learning for children of special needs and has contributed towards creating self awareness in these children."
