NEW DELHI: A group of MCD officials and teams from TERI and Tetra Pak will address students at St. Margaret Senior Secondary School, Rohini on October 19. It will be followed by a signature campaign....
The lectures are part of a series of initiatives the schools has undertaken in collaboration with schools abroad. British Council's International School Award (ISA) provides the platform fro such collaborations, getting city schools connected with those in other countries. St. Margaret is working with Broughton High School, North Carolina, U.S.A, on recycling.
"The project revolves around the 4 R's - refuse, recycle, reuse and reduce.Our school is already working on the project of recycling. We are making efforts to make our students aware about it through various activities.We follow the Learning by Doing method and let our children gain knowledge through that,"" says Preeti Vaswani, project leader and English teacher at St. Margaret.
Some of the other activities the students are involved in include, making things out of waste paper, tetra pak, cans and bottles. Models and charts will be displayed in an exhibition. A visit to the paper recycling plant at the Delhi Secretariat, a rally in the neighbourhood promoting recycilng and a street-play by students are also planned. .
"This project begins in October and will end by December 2012. We are including Grade 5 to Grade 9 (11 years to 14 years).There is complete freedom of thoughts and ideas in this project.Moreover we will get the chance to get to know about the working of two different schools in different countries,"" says Vaswani.
The project will be launched with the guest lectures on Friday, October 19, which will be followed by a signature campaign.
