The attack came after one of the men tried to rape the girl a few days ago, police said. While the accused, Amirul, 24, was nabbed by the locals and handed over to the police, the remaining three managed to escape.
The 24-year-old accused has been arrested and has cases registered against him, a cop said.
The accused told police that he was scared of being identified by the girl and so he plotted the murder.
Cops said the four accused came armed with knives and scaled the wall of the victim's house. One of the family members spotted the men and raise the alarm after which people gathered and stopped the accused from fleeing. They were beaten up by the public and police were subsequently informed.
The victim told the police that the accused had taken her to a jungle, where he gagged and misbehaved with her. Amirul is married, has two children and is a drug addict, police said. Cops are investigating further.
