NEW DELHI: Traffic congestion is expected on Sunday due to a Tazia procession by Shia Muslim community from Imambara in Pahari Bhojla to Karbala in Jorbagh. The procession will start at about 9am and reach Karbala by the evening.
Buses and other vehicles will be diverted depending on the position of the religious procession.
The procession will go via Matia Mahal, Jama Masjid chowk, Chawri Bazar, Hauz Qazi chowk, Ajmeri Gate and Pahar Ganj bridge in old Delhi. It will then proceed to Chelmsford Road, the Connaught Place outer circle, Parliament Street, Krishi Bhawan roundabout, Raisina Road to reach Vijay Chowk. It will then proced towards south Delhi via Krishna Menon Marg, Tughlaq road, Aurobindo Marg, turn left on Jorbagh Road and ultimately reach Karbala, said senior traffic cops.
"Those going to New Delhi Railway Station on Sunday, particularly in the evening, should leave in advance and have sufficient time for possible delay in routes," advised joint commissioner of police (traffic) Satyendra Garg.
For reaching New Delhi Railway Station, commuters should avoid Connaught Place and reach Ajmeri Gate side through Tilak Marg, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg or through Rajghat and Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg depending on movement of procession.
"Commuters should use public transport including Delhi Metro to avoid inconvenience. There is likelihood of slowing down and congestion of traffic along the route of the procession. General public and the motorists are advised to avoid the above mentioned routes," said a senior traffic police officer.
