The accused, Balwinder Singh (45) and Manoj (28), were nabbed for stealing and misappropriating around 20 tons of steel blade strips, Tyagi added. Cops have recovered 38 drums, each containing 21 strips, and 9 loose strips of steel blades.
The accused driver, Balwinder, had reportedly misappropriated 200 quintals of plates from 38 containers, belonging to Jindal Steels of Gurgaon, and replaced them with salt to balance the weight. These containers were then sent to Egypt, while the steel plates were sold in India at low rates, said SBS Tyagi, deputy commissioner of police, crime branch.
The arrests came following a complaint by Gateway Rail Greight Ltd, Gurgaon on December 22 last year.
During interrogation, Balwinder told police that he had stolen the steel blade strips from the truck with the help of Mangal Singh and Rurdu Singh from Hissar. Mangal and Rudru had loaded the truck with container with steel blade strips from Jindal Steel, Hissar and had departed for ICD, Garhi. Mangal Singh drove the truck to Bahadur Garh, Haryana and met his relative accused Balwinder. Balwinder took the truck with driver to Ghewara More and delivered the truck to Manoj. Manoj unloaded the container containing 38 drums (each containing strips of steel blades) in the godown and sold the entire goods to Manoj.
