Water panel officer held for raping domestic help

NEW DELHI: A senior official of Central Water Commission has been arrested for allegedly raping his 40-year-old domestic help. The victim, police said, alleged that the accused had promised to marry her and even threatened her not to tell anyone about the incident.

The accused, a resident of Vikaspuri in west Delhi, was arrested on Friday after the victim approached police.

Both the accused and the victim have separated from their spouses, an officer said.

Police said the victim, from Jabalpur, had been employed by the accused last year and looked after his 80-year-old ailing and bedridden mother. She had been employed on a three-year contract.

Police said that two months ago, the accused's mother had filed a complaint against the victim, alleging that she was trying to grab their property. After the incident, the victim had moved to a rented accommodation in Vikaspuri, the police officer said.

The victim also alleged that even after she moved out, the senior officer of the water commission would either force her to come to his house or come to her's and rape her. A case of rape has been registered.

In another incident, a 15-year-old girl complained to police that she was being physically assaulted and molested by her brothers and father for the past several years.

Police have registered a case under Sections 323 (causing hurt), 354 (molestation) and 34 (common intention) of IPC. One of the brothers and the father have been arrested. The other brother is absconding.
