Fire in Delhi slum kills 1, injures 5

NEW DELHI: A fire official says a fire swept through a slum on the outskirts of Delhi, killing one child and injuring at least five others.

Fire official Rajesh Kumar says 20 fire engines took more than two hours on Friday to douse the fire, which destroyed dozens of makeshift dwellings next to the Bawana industrial area in northwest Delhi. Many residents of the area make a living collecting garbage for resale.

The cause of the fire was not known.
