284 Delhiites still missing from Uttarakhand

NEW DELHI: At least 284 Delhiites haven't returned home from Uttarakhand, says Delhi government's 24/7 helpline, which was made operational since Monday. Of the 368 people reported missing, 84 have been traced and 29 of them are stranded in Badrinath; 45 have returned. But, there is no data on the death toll and there may be many more missing people.

Delhi's divisional commissioner Dharampal said a database of missing people based on calls on the helpline is being prepared and sent to the Uttarakhand authorities as well as Delhi officials manning the control rooms in Dehradun and Rishikesh. Delhi officials there said they received 15 cases of missing people till Friday evening. Without any consolidated data, they are making do with data uploaded by the Uttarakhand government and comparing those with their own data.

That state's government is also learnt to have tied up with the Union telecom ministry to search for the missing by tracing their cellphone signals.
