NEW DELHI: With heavy winds gripping the city on Saturday evening several parts of east Delhi experienced outages for over five hours. Discom officials said the snag was caused due to tree branches falling on two 66KV cables supplying power to Mayur Vihar, Patparganj and neighboring areas.

While the discom claimed the outages were brief, residents said that they lasted for more than five hours. "The outages ruined our entire evening. There was no electricity from 4.30pm to 9pm," said Shonali Dey, a resident of AIIMS apartment in Mayur Vihar extension. However, in several parts of the area, supply was not restored till 9.30pm.

Brief outages were also reported from several areas in west Delhi which officials said were caused by local faults. "There was no power in our colony for over an hour," said Shankar Bharti, a resident of Ambika Enclave in Nihal Vihar in north-west Delhi.
