Delhi Jal Board rescues nilgai caught in flood water

NEW DELHI: A young nilgai was rescued from Wazirabad water treatment plant by Delhi Jal Board staff. The animal sustained external injuries. After treatment, it was released in the Asola Wildlife Park on Wednesday evening. Rescue operations were on to save another one in the same area.

One more nilgai was caught in the flood water at Geeta Colony. The animal was spotted by DJB's staff It flowed to the plant around 6.30am.

"There is a bar screen just before the water intake point which stops all floating material from entering the pumps. The animal was spotted when it came near the screen. Till then we did not know what animal it was," said BM Dhaul, member (water), DJB.

DJB has deployed divers at the plant who dive in the river in times of emergencies, usually to remove large floating material and bodies on some occasions.The divers went into the Yamuna, caught the animal, tied the rope around its neck and pulled it out of the water.
