SHIMLA: Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement (IESM) which is an All India Federation of Military Veterans Organisation in collaboration with Vivekanand International Foundation (VIF) Delhi is organising " Shaurya" a prelude to Vijay Diwas at New Delhi on July 20 to remember and pay homage to Kargil War Heroes.
A poetic and musical tribute to brave hearts will also be paid by the motivated students of Delhi university. Brig (retd) Khushal Thakur, YSM belongs to Nagwain village of Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh under whose command 18 GRENADIERS had recaptured Tololing and Tiger Hill Peaks has been invited to give an inspirational talk and presentation on Tiger Hill battle to the audience.
It may be recalled that Tiger Hill and Tololing battles had huge strategic importance and also proved as a major turning point for entire Kargil War. Besides, it had a profound effect on the Army's and Nation's mood. From despondency the mood changed to optimism and celebration.
"Immediately, after the recapture of Tiger Hill, then Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Shariff had rushed to Washington on July 4 1999 to meet US President Bill Clinton and signed a face saving ceasefire to pull back his forces from Kargil unconditionally," said Khushal Thakur.
The Indian Army evicted every Pakistani intruders on July 26, 1999 from Kargil and the day is celebrated as Kargil Victory Day (Vijay Diwas) every year.
