Amit Singh Saran, from Rajasthan, had also sent her objectionable messages on Facebook. Police are trying to ascertain if the accused is involved in earlier cases of stalking as well. He lives in the same neighbourhood as the victim, who had recently enrolled in a course in Library Science.
The victim approached the Vasant Vihar police on Saturday and told them that the accused had been following her. She also said she was eve-teased when she would step into her balcony. Police said the victim, who had initially not wanted to report the matter, approached them when the accused began sending her objectionable messages on Facebook.
"The accused got hold of the victim's account details and password through a common friend. He even threatened her with dire consequences if she did not accept his proposal. When a team led by SI Rajesh, under instructions from SHO Anil Sharma went to raid Amit's residence, he tried to flee. The police, however, managed to nab him after a short chase and a fistfight," said a senior officer.
