They claimed to have a presence that can swing votes for at least 14 seats, including the CM's New Delhi constituency, in a petition to the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee. These include Ghonda, Karawal Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Patparganj, Sangam Vihar, New Delhi, Badarpur, Palam, Rohini (Kirari), Burari, Nangloi jat, Rohini, Delhi Cantt and Bijwasan.
The Congress leaders from Uttarakhand also plan to reach out to party high command Sonia Gandhi with their demand for recognition as a crucial vote bank. It may not be easy for the Congress to ignore the presence of Poorvanchalis in the capital as their demand for recognition seems to grow louder. Also, in the aftermath of the Uttarakhand floods, the Congress would want to steer clear of any such political controversy.
"Despite having large number of dedicated, diligent, sincere and honest voters and party workers, the current trend shows that the people of Uttarakhand origin in Delhi have been neglected considering the current track record of various platforms of the party," the petition states. Former minister from Uttarakhand and currently appointed observer from AICC for west Delhi parliamentary constituency Kishore Upadhyay pointed that Congress workers and various associations of people of Uttarakhand origin in Delhi have been holding meetings and trying to come together on a common platform.
