Police said that they were carrying 15kgs of cheetal and sambhar antlers costing Rs 1.5 crore in the international market.
The accused were identified as Jitender Kumar, 31 and Vinit Khanna, 48, they had come to sell the antlers to a person identified as Gopal Awasthi who has also been arrested from the spot.
Police recovered around 48 cheetal and sambar antlers from their possession, they said.
"A team of officers from the crime branch received a tip-off about the two of them coming to the area in east Delhi to sell animal body parts to a person. At 2.30 pm the two smugglers arrived in a Wagon R car and stopped near the Saraswati Kunj Apartments, Narwana Road, after a few minutes, Gopal came in another car and reached out for the smugglers to show them their product stored in the dickey.
A police team led by DCP Bhisham Singh took them into custody," said Ravindra Yadav, additional commissioner of police (crime).
Police said that Jitender used to supply the animal products which he sourced through a person identified as Puran. Jitender had roped in his friend Vinit, luring him with the possibility of earning a quick buck after he suffered a loss in his business. They added that Jitender was unemployed while Vinit was involved in various businesses including property dealing.
Gopal on the other hand had a small business of his own and also worked as a property dealer with Vinit. Police said that a case has been registered under the Wildlife Protection act and other elevant sections of the law. They added that investigations are on to nab the other criminals involved in the trade.
