NEW DELHI: Traffic in several parts of the city came to a standstill during peak hours due to the Durga Puja immersion rush. Processions choked arterial roads connecting the commercial areas, though the traffic police had issued an advisory to puja organizers.

Traffic jams were reported on the roads leading to Qudsia Ghat and Geeta Colony Ghat. Many commuters were stuck near Vidhan Sabha-Civil Lines area as revellers got off their vehicles and blocked the roadsin the evening. Traffic cops said they eventually cleared the way.

"People were dancing on the road and walking in front of the trucks carrying idols," said a commuter travelling from Vidhan Sabha to ITO. He added that the situation was worse near Metcafe House. Those passing through cen8tral Delhi to go towards Noida via Sarita Vihar had a tough time as many trucks slowed down near Kalindi Kunj to let devotees get down and walk alongside.
