Congress’ power minister doubles worth in 5 years

The declared assets of Haroon Yusuf, Delhi minister for power, and food and supplies, have nearly doubled in the past five years. The four-time sitting MLA from Ballimaran constituency filed his nomination on Thursday, declaring that his personal worth (not inclusive of assets held by his wife and children ) is Rs 1.17 crore. It was around Rs 55 lakh before the 2008 elections.

Yusuf 's wife, Bushra Haroon, has additional assets (movable and immovable ) of Rs77lakh, andthecouplehas jewellery / valuables worth Rs 42 lakh. Bushra, however, has an unsecured loan of Rs 25 lakh. Their three sons, Omar, Areeb and Fazal, have assets worth Rs 7 lakh, Rs 7.6 lakh and Rs 7.2 lakh.

As per the affidavit, Yusuf does not own any motor vehicle. A BCom graduate from Delhi University, he states his profession is "social service" and his wife is a homemaker.

Yusuf filed his affidavit at Vikas Bhawan building near ITO around noon. He arrived accompanied by hundreds of supporters, slowing down traffic for close to 40 minutes. Two of his sons, Omar and Areeb, accompanied him to the filing office and his formalities were completed in less than an hour.
