The murder of Shahnawaz, a local factory worker, is the sixth such incident reported in the last four days from east and northeast Delhi which has raised questions on the law and order situation in the areas. Several incidents happened at crowded places. Officers of the two districts admit that the increase in street violence is alarming and has kept them on their toes. "We have intensified patrolling in different crime prone areas to prevent it," said a senior officer.
Around 11 pm, Shahnawaz's body was found at Block G of Old Seemapuri. Cops took him to a local hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Investigators are still not sure about who committed the crime as no CCTV footage is available to help them progress in the case.
The murder spree had started on December 9 when a group of five youths shot teenager Zeeshan in Seelampur. Just a few hours after the incident, another youth Mahinder was shot at by two bikers when he was eating food at a roadside stall. On the same night, a 30-year-old woman was set on fire at Zafrabad area.
All these cases still remain unsolved just like the Rs 90 lakh cash van heist that had happened in Dilshad Garden. A similar case had occurred when two bikers had snatched Rs 10 lakh from a property dealer in the same area on November 24.
Cops are also clueless about the identity of the woman whose body was stuffed in an iron trunk and dumped near the Anand Vihar Metro station on November 19. The CCTV footage had revealed that two persons had left the trunk in the wee hours but the cops are yet to crack the case. Similarly, the bikers who shot a trader's employee and robbed Rs 2 lakh are still at large.
