Cops oppose Tunda’s bail plea

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Friday opposed the bail plea of Lashkar-e-Taiba bomb expert Abdul Karim Tunda in the Sadar Bazar blasts case, saying that he would tamper with evidence if granted bail.

Filing its reply before chief metropolitan magistrate Amit Bansal, police said Tunda should not be granted bail at this stage. The court has fixed January 3 for hearing arguments on the bail plea.

Seventy-two-year-old Tunda, who is in judicial custody in connection with various terror attack cases, had on December 17 filed a bail plea in the 1997 Sadar Bazar blasts case. The LeT bomb expert, in his plea filed through advocate MS Khan, had said he has been chargesheeted by police only on the basis of "disclosure statements" made by two accused who were arrested earlier in connection with the case.
