NEW DELHI: Months after a 23-year-old Korean language student at JNU entered his class armed with a pistol, an axe, a knife, poison and acid in his bag, and attacked a girl, police have submitted the chargesheet. The violence on July 31 had shook the campus.

Police have abated the charges against the accused, Aakash Gupta, who committed suicide after the attack. The 22-year-old girl has not fully recovered from the shock and is at her home in Bihar. She has a faint memory of the attack. Her parents are too scared to send her back.

In the report filed by a team led by addl DCP (south) P S Kushwah last week, police have charged Aakash with attempt to murder (307), criminal intimidation (506) of the IPC, and sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act. A few classmates and a professor have been listed as witnesses.

The chargesheet says Aakash's action came after the girl rejected his advances. This depressed him. "Aakash had gone to the extent of sending a photo of him and the girl to her family so she could be induced to marry him. But the girl was firm not to have any relations with him," says the report. The girl wanted to study further.

"Each time Aakash made a move, she stopped talking to him, but he would apologize and coax her into forgiving him. After Aakash sent their photo to her family, she wanted to complain to GSCASH, the disciplinary committee, but retracted under peer pressure, who asked her to think about his career," the report says.

Aakash, however, got depressed and decided to eliminate himself and her. Call details reveal the two had no communication in the last three months. The last communication was an SMS from Aakash to Roshni on May 4.

The plan was hatched in the summer holidays when Aakash got a country-made pistol from home. He also arranged an axe and a knife. To kill himself, he had an insecticide, a bottle of acid and 5 pouches of Sulfas . The source of the pistol couldn't be traced, though SI Ram Pratap and his team visited Aakash's hometown.

Their college had opened a week ago and Aakash did a recce. He sat quietly for the first lecture behind the girl. In the break, he sent the professor out saying another professor had been calling him.
