At a press conference to announce induction of TV journalist Ashutosh into the party, Kejriwal said, "It is untrue that we have waived power bills for those who haven't paid since March. The matter is still under consideration and a decision will be taken only on Monday."
In a controversial move, the Delhi CM on Friday announced exemption for people who had defaulted on their electricity bills and withdrawal of cases against those booked for power theft since March 23 last year.
"People who haven't paid their electricity bills after March 23 last year will be considered and charges of power theft against them, if any, will be withdrawn," he had said.
Kejriwal had made the announcement while launching his campaign against private power firms in the national capital who now face an audit by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India.
The CM's announcement had drawn severe criticism from the opposition with BJP's Harsh Vardhan, who was party's CM candidate, saying the move would lead to anarchy. "What if we ask people not to pay their power bills? Shouting slogans and governance are two different things," Vardhan told TV channels.
In the backdrop of inflated bills, Kejriwal often defended his decision to ask people not to make payments before he won the election as part of his "civil disobedience movement". But as CM, skirting the legal issues surrounding non-payment of bills, may test his resolve to deliver what he had promised.
