The women were given an inaugural tour during which they were told about the working and the operating system of the Metro, including emergency and disaster management mechanisms.
The objective of the campaign is to spread awareness among commuters about safety of women.
Taking a step towards ensuring the safety of its commuters, DMRC has reserved the first coach of all Metro trains for women since 2010. Emergency alarms have also been installed inside the coaches, and female guards and other staff have been deputed in all major Metro stations.
The 25 commuters chosen for the tour were shown important components of the system such as the station control rooms, technical rooms, automatic fare collection, CCTVs and tunnel ventilation. They were also told the emergency alarms through which they can directly communicate with the train operator in case of emergency. The women, which included an income tax commissioner, a former athlete, doctors, government servants, and students, were then given prizes by Sharat Sharma, director of operations, DMRC.
The 'Know Your Metro' campaign will invite a group of commuters every month to brief them on the system of Metro and available security measures.
