Bhaichand Patel and Vikramjit host an evening to pay tribute to Khushwant Singh in Delhi

In Memoriam: Music, poetry, drinks and a few laughs - this was an evening in memoriam like no other. And why not? It's a tribute to Khushwant Singh we're talking about, who believed in the 'eat, drink and be merry' motto. That's what his friends Bhaichand Patel and Vikramjit S Sahney had in mind when they organised an evening to remember and celebrate the author and columnist. "He'd have liked it this way, that we celebrate the life of Khushwant Singh, as I believe he lived his life, as opposed to existing. We'd have loved to celebrate his centenary, but he passed away at 99. But this is how he'd have wanted us to remember him; with Sufi music and his peer group gathered together," said Sahney.

Sufi for Khushwant: "This is way beyond Khushwant's bed time. He'd welcome us in at 7, and welcome us out at 8 every evening, and in the course of that hour, we'd share a jaam," said Vikram Seth, as he took to the stage to read a poem he'd written for Khushwant some time back. Sahney sang a few Sufi songs, which he used to sing to the late author. Rahul Singh was among those who recollected their memories of Khushwant. Meenu Bakshi brought the evening to a fitting end with her rendition of Abhi Toh Main Jawan Hoon.
