4-year-old run over by speeding dumper

NEW DELHI: A four-year-old child was mowed down by a speeding dumper in Shahbad Dairy in outer Delhi on Tuesday night. The accident sparked tension in the area as locals gathered at the spot and blocked roads.

Noor lived with his father, Rehmat Ali, mother Fatima, and a sister in Krishna Colony. He was crossing the road with his mother at 11pm when he was run over, police said. The driver of the dumper fled. The child died as no one came forward to help, his mother told police. Following the accident, locals blocked the road. After two hours of negotiations, senior police officers managed to calm them. The boy's autopsy was conducted on Wednesday and the body handed over to the family.

Police are questioning dumper owners in the locality and adjoining areas to identify the vehicle. CCTV footage of adjoining areas are being scanned. A case of causing death and rash and negligent driving under sections 304A and 279 of IPC was registered.
