Rohtak firing: Woman aide of kidnapper dies of injuries

NEW DELHI: The woman injured in an encounter with Delhi Police on Monday at Rohtak in Haryana died of injuries early on Tuesday, police said. Jyoti, who was allegedly an accomplice of Raj Kumar, the prime accused in a kidnapping case, had taken four to five bullets. Kumar had at least five to six bullets pumped into him. The cops said the criminals were fleeing in an Ertiga car when the firing took place near a railway crossing. It is not clear from where the businessman was rescued.

An FIR has registered on a complaint given by Delhi Police and a magisterial inquiry has also been initiated. The postmortem of Jyoti and Raj Kumar was conducted on Tuesday. Raj Kumar had several criminal cases, including two related to dacoity, against him. The cops gunned down the kidnapper on Monday evening during a rescue operation.

The businessman, Ram Lal (34), lives with his family in Chhawla area of southwest Delhi. He owns a few factories and a shoe manufacturing unit. He did not return home on Sunday evening, after which his family received a ransom call. Sources said Lal walked into a honey trap. The kidnappers, who allegedly demanded Rs 50 lakh, scaled down the ransom to Rs 10 lakh, sources said. The cops said the family alerted them only on Monday afternoon and a special team was formed. The calls were traced to Rohtak and armed teams were sent to intercept the kidnappers.

Rohtak police were also roped in and the house was identified around 5pm. The police asked the abductors to surrender but they allegedly opened fire and tried to flee. They also tried to kill the victim, police said. The cops opened retaliatory fire and both Raj Kumar and Jyoti were hit.

This is the third encounter by Delhi Police within a year. Before this, gangster Neetu Dabodia and kidnapper Manoj Morkheri's aide had been shot in operations by the special cell and crime branch.
