TOI has maintained that e-rickshaws must be regulated. Here's how to do it:

Bring e-ricks under Motor Vehicles Act. They must be registered and have number plates. They need insurance cover. Their drivers need driving licences.

Restrict maximum passengers on e-ricks. The vehicles must be stable and have the right manoeuvrability.

Keep e-ricks off main arterial roads. Confine them to specific areas, such as inside colonies and to provide last-mile connectivity.

Make it mandatory for e-ricks to be periodically checked for road worthiness. Impose speed limits after determining the safe speed for these vehicles.

Fix fares according to distance. Reasonable fares will reduce incentive to undercut and make up by overloading.
