NEW DELHI: Six members of a family including three women and three children were charred to death after a cylinder exploded and caught fire at their house in Jasola Vihar on Friday morning.

One of the male members of the family was to get married and the victims were waiting for their bride when the incident happened, police said.

The house owner Idris had gone with his son Islam (the groom) to Bijnor leaving his wife and others behind. There were food preparations going on and preliminary investigations suggest that a spark from a gas stove burnt the gas pipe leading to a cylinder explosion. The whole house was gutted before the fire brigade arrived.

The fire officials and police received a call regarding the incident around 11.15am and sent three fire tenders to the spot.

An FIR regarding the incident has been registered at Sarita Vihar police station and investigations are being conducted. The police have invoked section 304 a (causing death due to negligence) in the FIR.
