Till now, children of alumni and siblings of enrolled students have enjoyed an advantage over other applicants. But after last year's debacle, a sizable section of parents are now in favour of limiting the number of seats for these groups.
Over a quarter of 1,800 parents surveyed by admissionsnursery.com want the number of seats for siblings limited. Nearly three quarters-71%-will be happy if points for alumni were dropped altogether.
Parents also feel that a single slab for distance isn't feasible and there should be several sub-categories within the slab, with the number of points awarded increasing with proximity to school.
Only 23% parents felt that last year's system-fixed number of points for everyone within 8km of a school-was a viable one.
Though the number of points allotted to distance was the highest at 70, parents fast realized their kids weren't likely to find seats in "schools of their choice" on the strength of these points alone.
"Many sibling cases missed out last year as they stay beyond 8km and some had to buy property. That's why most parents want points till 15km," said admissionsnursery.com's Sumit Vohra.
Over half of the parents-67%-want "first child" points. Till 2012, some schools had "first child" as a parameter and applicants who could not claim other points had benefited from it.
Over half of the surveyed parents are against management quota and feel it "leads to corruption" while 36% feel the school is justified in making some provision for schools owners.
One parent commenting on the forum has asked for "special consideration for twins"; another wants a "centralized process with three priority school selection". They also want more clarity on maximum age which had been fixed only for the cap to be lifted later.
