"If you want to complain about any traffic violation, including refusals by auto rickshaws and taxis, unauthorized parking, faulty traffic signals or any other issue, send a photo or short video clip with your name, place, date and time," said a message issued by special CP commissioner (traffic), Muktesh Chander.
Traffic officials said the helpline has been launched to involve citizens in reporting illegal activities. Once the cops receive a message, it will be forwarded to the traffic circle and the nearest traffic officer will be asked to investigate and prosecute the violator. The officer will then revert to the control room with the status of the prosecution.
Last week, traffic cops had asked citizens to complain about illegal parking through their Facebook page and traffic helpline 1095 to curb the parking mafia menace.
Traffic officials said they have been using the anti-corruption helpline (9910641064) to receive reports about traffic violations, but it takes time for a complaint to reach cops as it is routed through the vigilance department. A dedicated number was issued to make things simpler.
"The number can also be used to post photographs of cops found engaged in acts of corruption as well," said a traffic police officer.
On August 28, Delhi Police had issued a circular asking officials-from post in-charge to joint commissioners - to use the application to connect with the general public.
