A 22-year-old computer application student had bought mobile phones from the victim, Jaspal Singh. "When he found the phones lacking in quality, he thought of returning them. Fearing that he may not get his money back, he plotted with his friends to loot Singh," DCP (Central) Parmaditya said.
Singh got a call from the accused pretending to be a buyer and asked him to come to a store in Karol Bagh. When he reached, the accused told him that he had run out money and needed to withdraw money from the ATM. He asked Singh to sit inside his car. Soon, his three associates joined them. They robbed Singh of the seven mobile phones he had brought with him and even took away his gold chain. They threatened him with dire consequences, dropped him near Dhaula Kuan and fled.
After Singh's complaint, police started a probe with the help of CCTV footages. The main accused was nabbed from Haryana after leads from local intelligence units.
Apart from the mobile phones, police have also recovered the victim's gold chain and the car used in the crime. While the main accused and two of his associates have been arrested, the third person involved in the crime is absconding.
