NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Tuesday registered an FIR against Uber, the service which the 25-year-old used to book the cab.

DCP (north) Madhur Verma confirmed that the action had been taken against Uber for its negligent conduct.

Police have invoked section 420 (cheating) of IPC in the FIR and section 188 of the MV Act too. A legal opinion to invoke section 406 (criminal breach of trust) is also being taken from experts, a senior police officer said.

The cops have also asked Uber to submit documents under 91 CrPC and are verifying how many drivers on its contract list are unverified. Following the FIR, the top management of Uber will be questioned and arrest may follow, the officer added.

Delhi Police commissioner BS Bassi said a case has been registered and an investigation was under way against the Uber cab driver who allegedly raped a finance executive on Friday, for forging his character certificate,

"One document has surfaced which purportedly certifies his character. The date of the certificate, signature of the person who has signed was also not posted there. So, the documents are fake and a case has been filed against the same. The investigation is being done," Bassi said.

As per reports, the Uber cab driver accused of raping the finance executive on Friday, had been convicted for a similar crime in 2011 and had spent over seven months in prison. However, he was later granted bail.

An FIR had also been lodged earlier against Uber by the Delhi Police for cheating customers on the pretext of providing safe commuting with duly verified driver.

Earlier in the day, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) also summoned the local Chief Executive Officer of international taxi-booking service Uber.

The Delhi Police will also reportedly continue questioning officials of the taxi service in Delhi.

The Delhi government had on Monday banned Uber from functioning in the national capital even as the company issued a statement assuring its full co-operation to help the victim and her family in their recovery.
