Govt to issue NCR auto permits soon

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has finally decided to start the process of issuing permits to autorickshaws plying in the NCR. The notice, which is expected to come out soon, will benefit thousands of commuters. The government will issue 5,500 autorickshaw permits, of which 2,750 are earmarked for Uttar Pradesh and 2,750 for Haryana.

"A number of owners have shown interest in running their autorickshaws between Delhi and neighbouring towns of Gurgaon, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad, Sonipat etc. We have 5,500 permits. In case, we get more applications we will give out permits through a lucky draw," said a transport department official. "We will give preference to women." Autorickshaws under this scheme are expected to be available from January, added the official.

The UP autorickshaws will have to have a three-inch orange coloured strip horizontally in the Centre of green colour of the autorickshaw and the phrase "NCR auto for Uttar Pradesh" in white colour will have to be indicated inside the strip. The Hrayana autos will have purple-coloured strip horizontally in the centre of green colour and will have "NCR auto for Haryana" written inside the strip.
