Tihar to hold Urdu classes for inmates

NEW DELHI: The Tihar jail administration has decided to teach Urdu to its inmates for better employment opportunity after their release. On being asked about some prisoners opposing the move, jail officials said enrolment to the course is optional and nobody will be forced to learn the language.

A convict qualified to teach the language will be appointed the teacher, a jail officer said on Wednesday. "A curriculum has been set up. Regular assessment will be carried out," the official said. There will also be classes for Punjabi and English, an officer said. Around 65 have signed up so far.
