Flight movement in Delhi's airspace have been restricted for two hours every day since January 19, with a break on January 23. Airport officials said there will be normal operations on Sunday as well, but on Monday, no flight will be allowed to land in or take off from the capital between 10.30am and 12.30pm.
Around 40 flights were getting delayed every day because of the no-fly zone, officials said. "The information about the two-hour no-fly restriction has been shared with everyone. Most carriers have rescheduled their flights," said a senior airport official. However, international flights, which are scheduled to land in Delhi during the restricted time, are likely to get delayed.
"International flights and a few domestic carriers who haven't rescheduled their flights in advance hover around the airspace before getting permission to land, which is only after 12:30pm," the official added. Delays in international flights reaching Delhi are likely to cause delays in connecting flights as well. Apart from commercial flights, Air Traffic Control (ATC) says it has denied entry to private aircrafts during the days restrictions have been placed.
For those leaving or reaching the airport on Republic Day, traffic police officials advise staying away from the Dhaula Kuan area. National Highway-8 through Dhaula Kuan is expected to be out of bounds for commuters because of VVIP movement in the area.
One route that people going away from the airport can take is Abdul Ghaffar Khan Marg through Vasant Kunj, which leads one to Mehrauli, Chattarpur, Lado Sarai, Malviya Nagar and Hauz Khas. The other alternative route could be to take the Rao Tula Ram Marg from NH-8 that opens up at Moti Bagh.
