Errant driver mows down constable

NEW DELHI: A 42-year-old Delhi Police constable was mowed down by a speeding car near northeast Delhi's Welcome Metro station on Tuesday.

The deceased constable was identified as Om Prakash. The accident was reported at 10pm.

The constable was on his bike when a car hit him from behind and fled from the spot, police said. A passerby called and informed the police.

The constable was first taken to GTB hospital and then to Swami Dayanand Hospital in Dilshad Garden where he was declared brought dead.

Police has received a Delhi vehicle number after investigation and an FIR under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304 A (causing death by negligence) registered.
