NEW DELHI: After sworn in as Delhi chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday morning held his first Janta Darbar in Kaushambi in Ghaziabad. Amidst heavy police presence, nearly 500 people gathered outside D-41 in Kaushambi where Kejriwal was addressing the issues.

People started gathering at 8 am while Kejriwal reached late at 9.55 am. He met with the complainants for two hours and left Kaushambi for Delhi secretariat at 12.08 pm. There was mixed reaction among the complainants, who were from various parts in Delhi. Some of the people came out from D-41 with smile while there were others who did not get satisfactory answer of their complaints.

"We are reeling under immense financial burden. We have only one daughter and her husband has no job. We had come to request Kejriwal to sort out our problem," said the 70-year-old John Petter, who had come from Baroda house.

Asha Garg, whose husband is battling for life in Max hospital in Saket had come for financial help. Garg could not control her emotions and broke down, while talking to TOI. "My husband is a kidney patient. He was admitted in Max Saket on February 16. The doctors conducted his dialysis and he also suffered heart attack yesterday. I have a below poverty line (BPL) card. I was told that only Rs 10,000 was to be paid for my husband treatment now but the hospital is demanding more money. I had come to get relief. CM Kejriwal listened to my problem for two or three minutes and then I was advised to approach the consumer court," Garg added, who hails from Morena in Madhya Pradesh.

Ex home guard, Krishna, 29, from Mangolpuri also reached Kaushambi. She complained that the department is biased over resuming services of female home guards.

"In October 2013, I was along with other 52 female home guards. We were assured that our services will be resumed soon but nothing has happened yet and only empty assurances are given. Ironically, services of male home guards have been resumed. We moved from pillar to post to get justice but all in vain," Krishna said.

She was accompanied by other 20 female home guards, whose services are also suspended. "During Kejriwal's last tenure we have approached him and that time he had also given assurances. On Wednesday, Kejriwal listened us patiently and received papers belonging to our case. We are hopeful this time we will get justice," said cheerful Krishna and her colleagues, following meeting with Kejriwal.

A 50-member delegation of Delhi merchants also met and shared tax related issues. "There is inspector Raj in Delhi. We are hopeful that Kejriwal government will address our issues. He patiently addressed our issues and assured to sort out soon," said Rakesh Agrahari of Delhi merchant association.

Pramod Sharma and nearly half a dozen other people had come with jurisdiction problem. "I stay in Pratap Nagar near Sabolli village. It is on the border of Delhi and UP. Due to confuse over jurisdiction, we are failing to avail many facilities in Delhi. We have in past had approached local MLA from Congress party but he did not pay heed. Kejriwal ordered his staff to look into the matter and sort out the problem," said Geeta devi, who had come with demarcation problem in the area.

Physically challenged Nahid from Shastri Park reached Janta Darbar to get job. "I was working on contract with Jag Pravesh Chand hospital but three months ago, I was removed and now I have no job and only bread winner in the family. During elections, I worked a lot for AAP. I have come with hope that my leader Kejriwal will address my problem," Nahid said. Kejriwal asked Nahid to share his details with his staff and he would soon get his job back.

Apart from complaints, there were many, who did not have complaint but had come to just wish Kejriwal luck and give suggestions.

A local of Kaushambi, Himanshu Gaur and his wife Durgesh Nandi Gaur came to offer medicines. "Kejriwal is our neighbour. Through media reports, we realized that he is unwell and have sugar problem so we have bought ayurvedic medicines for sugar," said Durgesh Nandi Gaur.

"I have shared a model to end corruption and black money transaction from Delhi," said Ram Naresh Gupta, who had come from Haridwar.

Keeping Janta Darbar in mind, Ghaziabad police and administration had made elaborated security arrangements. "In the late night, we have barricaded outside house in a way to streamline the public. To avoid mess, we have dedicated lines for complainants and space for media persons," said Atul Yadav, deputy superintendent of police, Ghaziabad.

"Janta Darbar will continue on Thursday and Friday as well. We are expecting more crowd in the coming two days, keepting that in mind, we will revisit security arrangements to cater best service to the people, who are coming to attend Janta Darbar," said Kapil Singh, city magistrate Ghaziabad. "Janta Darbar is likely to hold next week also," Singh added.
