The man had suspected her wife of having an extramarital affair, police said. He was arrested on Sunday.
The body of the woman, Zubain, was found wrapped in a quilt by her brother who had come to meet her around 10pm. He called the neighbours and their landlord, who informed the police and took Zubain to DDU Hospital where she was declared on arrival.
Zubain's husband, Shahid, was found to be missing from the house, along with their children who were five and seven years old.
"The autopsy has revealed that Zubain was strangled," a senior police officer said. Later, a team was formed to nab Shahid and he was found hiding at his sister's house. Shahid had told his sister that his wife had fled from their house and he needed her to take care of the children.
During interrogation, he admitted to have throttled his wife in front of their children during an argument over her alleged affair with a neighbour, which she had denied. A case of murder has been registered against Shahid, who owns a construction business. His children were taken into custody by a relative.
