The organizers on Wednesday felicitated the top fund raisers. A total of Rs 3.67 crore was raised in this latest edition of the marathon. Bharti Foundation emerged as the highest fund raising NGO with a haul of Rs 89.12 lakh. Sixty companies took part in the race with 83 teams in the Corporate Challenge category and raised Rs 2.29 crore. The 31 Dream Teamers raised Rs 82.15 lakh.
"The funds will be used to set up libraries in Leh, educate children in rural Uttarakhand and Tamil Nadu, support the disabled in Chennai and women and children in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, and for health camps in Odisha," said Vivek Singh, joint MD of Procam International, promoters of the event.
Bipasha Basu, the face of this annual event, told TOI, "Over the years, the half marathon has become significant in spreading the message of health. People should work on preserving their physical and mental health, because good health in the key to happiness and true independence."
"The support by all participants was a boon to us as this was our first time as philanthropy partners," said Murray Culshaw, chairperson, India Cares Foundation.
