The accused was identified as Satish and he lived in the same area as the child. According to police, he was a family friend and the child addressed him as uncle.
The incident was reported in the evening when Satish took the child with him on the pretext of fishing. He told the parents that they will be back in the evening.
Satish took the child to a secluded place in Ghuman Hera, and then sodomized him. When the child raised an alarm, he threatened him of dire consequences. According to police, the child fainted and Satish thought that he was dead. To make it appear as a suicide case, he tried to hang the child from a tree.
While he was trying to hang him, a few passersby noticed and rushed to the boy's help. Satish fled from the spot and the child was dropped back home by the locals.
Police arrested Satish from his house and a case was registered against him under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder), 377 (unnatural offences) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 (POCSO) at Chhawla police station.
