Delhi Police have arrested Mohammad Abid but neither the infant has been traced nor his body recovered from the drain.
Sartaj, who lives in Khureji and runs a mobile phone shop in Jagatpuri in east Delhi, had lodged a police complaint on January 25 that his brother Abid had kidnapped his son Zaid from his mother's house on January 23.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case and arrested Abid on January 25 after which he was taken on remand for eight days.
Abid told police that he took Zaid and dumped him at Ghazipur drain to settle scores with his sister-in-law who had complained against him to police a few days before the incident took place.
"During the remand, he was taken to Ghazipur drain where he claims to have dumped the child and he identified the place where he left the kid," a senior police official said.
The official said police have launched a proper search to trace the infant and that investigation into the case is still on.
He also said previous animosity between the two families might be the reason for Abid dumping the child in a drain.
Sartaj in his complaint had said that his mother had taken Zaid to her house at Patparganj Road in Khureji at 5.30pm on January 23.
Later, he got a call from his father asking whether Zaid, along with Abid had reached his shop, as they had left about an hour ago.
After their efforts to trace the child failed, Sartaj lodged the complaint against his brother.
