NEW DELHI: Police are trailing the trafficking network behind the recruitment of the maid rescued from Vasant Kunj. They will question placement agency owner Dorothy's husband, Lukhiram Karamakar, allegedly involved in trafficking of children from Sahebganj and other areas in Jharkhand to metros. Dorothy was arrested under the Juvenile Justice Act on Thursday. Lukhiram has been mentioned by the maid's mother and Dorothy in their statements. Lukhiram and Dorothy get children from remote villages in Jharkhand employed as domestic workers, police said.
The maid's mother arrived in Delhi on Friday morning. The victim recorded her statement before a magistrate on Friday evening, detailing the alleged brutalities by her employer, Vandana Dhir, and it will be filed in court on Saturday. The child welfare committee has sought a status report from police by Monday. Cops are waiting for the bone ossification report, which will be tallied with the girl's school-leaving and birth certificates, after which they will prepare the final report on her age.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has sent copies of the certificates from the Sahibganj district authorities that show that the victim turned 18 last month to CWC, Delhi Police and the divisional commissioner. CWC chairperson Paramjit Kukreja has said the JJ Act will apply in the case.
