Talwars claim CBI tutored maid

NEW DELHI: Rajesh and Nupur Talwar on Friday continued their final arguments in the Aarushi-Hemraj murder case in a Ghaziabad court. Talwars called CBI's theory of Rajesh Talwar drinking whiskey after the murders a concocted story and also said their maid, Bharti, was a tutored witness. Citing inconsistencies in its probe and theories in the case, defence counsel Tanveer Ahmed Mir said CBI's case is full of "alternative hypothesis" and has no standing against the Talwars.

Mir said that to back its theory of the whiskey bottle having Aarushi and Hemraj's DNA, CBI is relying on Dr B K Mahapatra's testimony who had said he could not lend an opinion based on mixed DNA profiles. Mir also cited the testimony of an expert from the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics in Hyderabad who said only Hemraj's DNA was present on the bottle. Even serologist Suresh Singla, Mir added, had said the blood could not be identified. On these grounds, Mir sought discarding of Mahapatra's testimony.

On Bharti Madal's testimony, Mir said her statement did not match the one she had earlier given to Data Ram Nanoria, the first investigating officer of Noida police. Bharti was the first one to enter the house after the murders. The defence argued that CBI never discussed other aspects of the case which were narrated by another witness, K K Gautam, who is a former DSP of Noida police.
