PWD officials said the preliminary survey and alignment work had been completed and the proposal has been sent to the Ridge Management Board for approval. Phase-I of the project—expanding the road connecting Andheria Mor to Fortis Hospital—was recently cleared by the National Green Tribunal and work on the stretch is expected to start by September end.
"The stretch between the flyover on Nelson Mandela Marg and Mahipalpur is the most congested part of the road. The Mahipalpur crossing is extremely crowded and often faces jams due to non-motorized vehicles, inter-state buses etc. To help vehicles headed for Gurgaon avoid this stretch completely, a slip road will be made from Ryan International School to the Shiv Murti complex. The Airports Authority of India has also proposed the construction of an internal road which will connect with the bypass and provide direct access to the airport. An underpass will also be constructed below NH-8. Work on the project will start by next year since some more clearances are needed," said an official.
Planning for phase-II has not started yet due to issues with land acquisition.
PWD officials said the road had become an important link between Andheria Mor and Vasant Kunj and IGI airport.
