NEW DELHI: The former manager of a private bank and four others have been arrested for duping people on the pretext of getting them jobs in the forest department. The men advertised in leading English newspapers posing as a government franchisee and charged people Rs 2-5 lakh.

The ex-manager has been identified as Ajay Pratap (31) and the other accused as Bhushan Kumar (52), Raman Verma (29), Gaurav Banerjee (27) and Kuldeep Kumar (26).

On September 7, a woman had submitted a complaint at Sagarpur PS saying she had seen an advertisement which offered 200 jobs for men and women in forest service. She contacted the numbers given in the ad and deposited Rs 975 as registration fee after having a conversation with one of the crooks.

"The woman was further induced into paying Rs 2 lakh in cash to book a seat after which the accused went underground," DCP (southwest) Suman Goyal said. SHO, Dabri, Richpal and ACP Om Prakash began to trace the whereabouts of the accused through human intelligence and electronic surveillance. On September 11, the team received a tip-off and nabbed three suspects. The arrested men admitted to having duped more than 200 people and two others were arrested at their instance. Police have recovered Rs 60,000, 8 ATM cards, fake ID cards and computers from them.
